Client: Double Tree | by Hilton | Amsterdam, June 2011
Assignment: interior architecture of the public spaces + skylounge
Double Tree by Hilton (formerly Mint Hotel) is one of the largest hotels in the Netherlands. It has 553 rooms and will be opened in early 2011. It is located next to Central Station on the Oosterdok Island. The interior concept of M+R is based on a high quality level and a business look. The style is timelessly modern and comfortable.
The challenge is to create an intimate environment within the high occupancy of the hotel in which people feel comfortable and at ease. For design, M+R was inspired by the Scottish roots of the hotel chain. An atmospheric image of stacked wooden whiskey barrels has been translated into round shapes and special cladding of the bars. By executing floors and interior elements in the same wood finish, a spatial effect is achieved. Wall coverings and upholstery are chosen in style.
