Assignment: design of the new terminal at Eindhoven airport
Eindhoven Airport is a regional airport with national and international potential. Due to the steady growth, the existing terminal became too small and it was decided to build a new one. The new terminal has a futuristic appearance and an industrial finish. M+R designed the interior of the departure hall and first floor with panoramic terrace and kitchen facilities. In addition, the hospitality establishments Belvedair designed the catering establishments, based on a new catering concept. A limited palette of primary colors was used to create atmosphere and to offer travelers overview and guidance. All counters in the departure hall are, for example, bright red. The catering formulas Small, Medium and Large each had their own atmosphere, whereby the à la carte restaurant (Large) was given a chic look with dark wooden furnishings with Italian furniture and large purple lighting fixtures. A crystal chandelier stands above the large round central table as a classic counterpart to the sleek interior. The space is, as it were, a box in a box construction, the special opening walls can be used to separate the space from the public spaces in the terminal, creating an intimate atmosphere.
