innovative office environment MCB International by M+R

M+R interior architecture has developed substantial expertise over recent decades in the creation and design of innovative and sustainable work environments. Since completing its first pioneering project in 2005 for Aramis Wonen in Roosendaal, the firm has focused on spatial concepts grounded in research, functionality, and long-term value.

A key principle in M+R’s approach is circularity in workplace design, in which materials and components are selected based on durability, reusability, and environmental impact. This methodology supports sustainable building operations and reduces reliance on primary raw materials.

M+R also integrates the principles of smart workplaces, where digital technologies, data analysis, and adaptive systems are employed to support work processes and optimize spatial efficiency. This technological integration contributes to flexible and responsive work environments.

The firm places strong emphasis on wellbeing, recognising that ergonomics, acoustics, daylight access, and spatial quality are essential determinants of user health and productivity. Within this framework, biophilic design has become increasingly significant. By incorporating natural elements, materials, and patterns into the work environment, biophilic strategies enhance cognitive performance, wellbeing, and psychological comfort.

In addition, M+R applies modular workplace concepts, enabling office environments to be readily adapted to evolving organizational requirements. This adaptability increases spatial efficiency and supports long-term operational resilience.

Collectively, these principles constitute a systematic approach to workplace development, integrating sustainability, technological innovation, and user-centred design into a coherent and future-oriented framework.

INNOVATIVE WORKING ENVIRONMENTS

VISION M+R INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE

OUR VISION

Innovative working in the Netherlands is a development that started several years ago. On the one hand, working independently of time and place has become possible due to the increasing quality and possibilities of communication tools. Thanks to the world wide web and e-mail, the world is within reach 24 hours a day. On the other hand, this development is the result of the restriction of mobility due to traffic jams and overload of public transport capacity; increasing travel costs and environmental burden (CO2) and increasing housing costs. Dealing efficiently with our mobility and housing needs leads to new forms of cooperation and requires more flexibility;

INNOVATIVE WORKING

O1.

These changes require a different working environment. You really don't have to move into a new building for this. And what the ideal working environment looks like is different for every organization. For example, one can choose a working environment that is based on activities and invites people to meet. Working from home can also be integrally included in the working concept for a company;

THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

02.

In a flexible working environment, information is independent of time and place. People can work anytime and anywhere. This makes it possible to offer them a working environment based on activities: concentrated work in a quiet room, discussions in a meeting room, or brainstorming in an inspiring room or from home. This way, every activity is optimally facilitated.

FLEXIBLE WORKING ENVIRONMENT

03.

If a working environment is made for meeting, new ways of working together emerge. Employees can immediately shape this collaboration in the appropriate spaces. From a small office in living room style to, for example, an auditorium for large groups.

MEET

04.

The amount of information within organizations is increasingly increasing. No one can grasp this on their own. And no filing cabinet is big enough. By being able to share data and expertise digitally quickly and easily, knowledge in your organization grows. In this way, the overwhelming information flows can actually work to your advantage.

COLLABORATION AS A KEY TO GROWTH

05.

With a working environment that suits the new way of working, you can also do business more sustainably. Because collaboration and communication is digital as much as possible, people use much less paper. And if people have to travel less, CO2 emissions are also much lower.
In addition, the new way of working results in cost savings. Less office space is needed because employees often work from home or on the road. This makes a significant difference in rental and energy costs. And because employees no longer have a fixed workplace, at most a locker, internal relocations are no longer a major expense item.

GREENER AND MORE COST EFFICIENT
