The Apeldoorn and Enschede branches will be housed together in the renovated office. To achieve this, a flexible working environment has been chosen; an open structure with flexible workplaces that are divided into three domains over three floors. Thanks to the flexible working environment, optimal use is made of the available square meters and the entire program could be realized, thus Koopmans saves considerably on housing costs.

Office revitalization, sustainability and innovation in an existing office building

Koopmans construction & development

The existing office building with traditional office cubicle layout and a centrally located corridor area has undergone a total metamorphosis. The office has been completely stripped on the inside; to achieve a pleasant working environment, lighting, acoustics and climate must be optimal; new acoustic ceilings have been installed; there is a sustainable lighting plan with daylight control and cooling and heating is controlled by ceiling induction units. Special carpet tiles have been chosen as the floor covering; this has a good property for absorbing 'fine dust' and dampens contact noise.

The workstations are equipped with an electric height adjustment and privacy screens, the screens are mounted on monitor brackets. Each floor is equipped with a living room, lockers, concentration and consultation rooms and collaborative work spaces. To visually 'break up' the space, where the aisle used to be, sculptural furniture units have now been provided in the shape of a 'skyline' (as a reference to the construction company). These units have a repro facility, telephone stations, consultation areas and open cupboard space for of samples and materials for the construction projects. The consultation rooms are equipped with an acoustic 'shell' - whereby the necessary profiles of the glass walls are invisibly incorporated into the structural floor and suspended ceiling. The meeting places are accentuated with pendant luminaires, suspended fluorescent luminaires with 'up and down lighting' are installed above the workplaces. For the other areas where less light is required, the light level has been deliberately kept low (maximum 250 lux) so that there is a balanced energy-friendly lighting plan.

The renovation of the office was an excellent reason to make the building more sustainable and to obtain the BREEAM very good (3 stars) certificate after completion. The entrance has also been renovated, the reception desk has been renovated and equipped with a raised floor for the reception staff, there are reception and consultation areas and a teleconference room.
