OUR VISION ON INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE IN HEALTHCARE
The way we view healthcare is changing — and with it, the role of the physical environment. Based on the principles of VanThuisUit and our involvement in projects such as Simeonshof in Boxtel, we believe that healthcare buildings are no longer closed systems, but open, vibrant places within society.
Interior architecture plays a key role in this. The design and experience of a building largely determine how people feel, how they move, and whether they feel welcome. That is why we design healthcare environments that are accessible, inviting, and naturally open to everyone—residents, informal caregivers, neighbors, and healthcare professionals.
Our ambition is to create places where people enjoy spending time. Not an institutional atmosphere, but warm, friendly, and welcoming environments with a positive vibe. Spaces that offer familiarity and comfort, yet also radiate energy and vitality. This requires a careful balance between functionality and experience, between tranquility and activity, and between privacy and social interaction.
We view healthcare buildings as social gathering places: a contemporary community center where care and daily life merge. By blending functions and opening spaces to the surrounding area, a dynamic place emerges where different groups come together. This fosters social connection and helps the building truly become a part of the neighborhood.
A key principle of our vision is to break down the stigma surrounding nursing homes. The traditional association with isolation and decline is being replaced by an environment that radiates health, vitality, and hope.
Light, materials, circulation, and sightlines are deliberately used to foster a sense of freedom, safety, and well-being.
Good interior architecture and ergonomics create healthy, functional, and welcoming spaces. By designing environments that feel intuitive and familiar, and that encourage movement and social interaction, we empower residents to maintain independence and strengthen informal care networks. At the same time, we create spaces that support collaboration and flexibility for care professionals and family caregivers. This also fosters social connection and helps the building become a natural part of the neighborhood.
