Project:
Design of a nieuw private home - with partial preservation of an old hunter's lodge.
On the edge of the countryside, an existing hunter’s lodge is being transformed into a future-proof home with an additional guesthouse.

Description:
Instead of demolition, the existing main structure serves as the starting point for the design. By preserving this foundation, the house retains its recognizability within the landscape while also minimizing the use of materials.
The street facade remains largely intact. New windows are carefully cut into the existing structure, preserving the original character while subtly updating the house. On the lot side, the house opens up to the landscape with large glass sections that bring light and views deep into the interior.
The new additions are constructed using a CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) structure, a sustainable and bio-based construction method that enables a lightweight and efficient building system. The facades of the extension are clad in sustainably charred poplar wood, which gives the building a calm, natural appearance.
Within the main residence, a self-contained apartment is being created that can serve as a guesthouse or a small-scale bed & breakfast. This creates a contemporary home where preservation, sustainability, and renewal come together.
