FUTUREPROOF RESIDENTIAL EXPANSION

Private

Place:

Eindhoven

Year:

2025

Project:

Expanding living space and restructuring the interior layout to better meet changing housing needs.

An existing semi-detached home has been expanded and redesigned into a future-proof residence that prioritizes flexibility, spaciousness, and sustainability. The renovation focuses not only on increasing the living space but, above all, on restructuring the internal layout so that the home better meets changing living needs.

Description:

A spacious kitchen-dining area has been added on the ground floor, serving as the new focal point of the home. The space is directly connected to the garden, allowing the indoor and outdoor areas to flow seamlessly into one another. Large windows provide abundant natural light and enhance the sense of space.
Adjacent to this, a garden room with its own bathroom facilities has been created. This space serves multiple purposes: currently, it functions as additional living space, but can easily be converted into a ground-floor bedroom in the future. In this way, the design accommodates lifelong living without compromising on comfort or spaciousness.
The interior of the existing home has also been reorganized. The addition of a walk-in closet creates a clear and logical entryway. Additionally, a new passageway to the living area improves internal circulation and strengthens the cohesion between the various living zones.
The kitchen-dining area and living room are subtly separated by a centrally placed fireplace. This fireplace serves as a spatial anchor and marks the transition between functions, while maintaining an open feel. This gives both spaces their own identity within a cohesive whole.
In addition to the spatial interventions, the home’s technical infrastructure has also been updated. An insulated floor with underfloor heating enhances comfort, while a heat pump and PV panels contribute to energy-efficient operation.

The result is a home in which expansion and restructuring reinforce one another. The quality of living has been enhanced by a flexible layout, a clear spatial organization, and a sustainable foundation that grows with its residents.
