A journey through living – from first sketch to dream home

For the new Livingstone Villa experience center in Dordrecht, M+R interior architecture collaborated closely with Livingstone to design a unique customer journey. The result is an inspiring experience for future homeowners, beginning with the very first sketch of their new home and guiding them step by step through all the possibilities a house can offer – from kitchen to bathroom, from living room to bedroom.

The concept is designed as a layered experience where multiple design styles come together: from classic to contemporary, from light to dark. Visitors are immersed in atmospheres such as hotel chicmodern ruralminimalist, and Japandi, allowing each client to discover which style best reflects their personal vision of home.

A journey through space

The experience begins at the entrance, where a generous reception area with a large bar welcomes visitors. Meals are also prepared here, giving the space a warm and hospitable character.

At the heart of the design stands the eye-catcher: a monumental cabinet that pierces through the atrium, connecting the ground floor with the upper levels. Integrated with the concrete staircase, the cabinet forms a sculptural whole. Its open and closed sections, framed views and sightlines turn it into a dynamic part of the journey, showcasing a wide range of interior architectural solutions and applications.

Innovation and sustainability

Special attention has been given to sustainable and innovative materials throughout the centre. Each space not only presents design styles and concepts but also highlights circular solutions and responsible choices. In doing so, visitors are inspired and at the same time made aware of the impact material choices have on comfort, health, and the environment.

Themed zones and immersive interiors

On the first floor, visitors encounter a series of themed zones, each dedicated to a specific aspect of living:

  • kitchens and cooking solutions

  • bathrooms and wellness areas

  • living rooms and seating concepts

  • home automation and smart technology

  • lighting and atmosphere

  • interior doors and frames

  • wall finishes and colours

  • stairs, fittings, and hardware

Each zone is carefully designed to make choices tangible and experiential, enabling clients to immerse themselves in the possibilities of their future home.

Inspiration and encounter

The second floor houses an eat-work café, serving as both a staff lounge and an inspiring meeting place for visitors. Here, conversations unfold in a relaxed atmosphere, supported by a fully equipped kitchen and a variety of seating options.

This level also includes a spacious material inspiration library, where wall, ceiling, and flooring finishes are displayed in an accessible and refined manner. Clients can touch, compare, and combine materials to gradually compose their personal style.

A complete experience

The Livingstone Villa experience center in Dordrecht is not a showroom, but a total experience. It is a carefully designed journey that takes visitors from inspiration to concrete decisions, from vision to realisation.

Together with Livingstone, M+R interior architecture has created an environment that is not only aesthetically compelling and functional, but also sustainable and future-oriented – a place that demonstrates how interior architecture can transform dreams into reality, where innovation and experience go hand in hand.
