M+R wins design competition for historic school building Mediacollege Amsterdam



Amsterdam, November 17, 2023 M+R interior architecture has won the design competition for the renovation of the historic school building of Mediacollege Amsterdam. This vocational school for creative and technical talent was previously known in the 1930s as the 'Amsterdam Graphic School'. The school building was designed by Heineke and Kuipers architects .


The assignment includes a thorough renovation, sustainability and redesign of this historic school building. The goal is to integrate the unique brand identity of Mediacollege Amsterdam in an innovative way. The final result will be an inspiring and multidisciplinary learning environment, suitable for MBO and VMBO students. The redesign offers students the opportunity to develop their skills and creativity in various media-related disciplines.




M+R Interior Architecture convinced the jury with a visionary approach that preserves the historic features of the building. In addition, space is created for modern, innovative learning methods. This project will preserve the historical value of the building and build a bridge between the past of the Amsterdam Graphic School and the future-oriented vision of Mediacollege Amsterdam.
